May all those who are called to be the followers of Christ be preserved from these earthly, these sensual and malignant motives, so repugnant to the generous, compassionate and forgiving temper, which, through the influence of redeeming mercy, is concomitant with the pure beams of heavenly light, that light which is intended to remove all the darkness of human corruption, and transform selfish, sensual, proud spirits, into angels of patience, humility, meekness, purity and love.
