New Briefing Paper Available! Council of Europe Responses to the Threat Posed by Terrorism (106KB)
The Council fo Europe has a history in developing measures to tackle the terrorist threats faced by its member states. This began with The European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism, signed in 1977, and most recently involved a high-profile report on alleged secret detentions and unlawful inter-state transfers involving Council of Europe member states. This Briefing Paper outlines and examines the Council of Europe responses to the threat posed by terrorism.

Every other year, QCEA arranges a conference – mainly aimed at European Quakers – to offer a broad basis for discussion around one of the main themes of QCEA’s work. This publication is one of the outcomes of the 2006 conference which was intended to look at the role of the European Union in peacebuilding – from a global and a European perspective. The
publication provides texts from the conference and summaries of some of the workshops.

Women In Prison Part One Report Available! (933KB)
In 2004 QCEA began a parallel project to that of the Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO) to gather information on women in prison in Europe. The role of QCEA was to gather data on the conditions of women in prison in the member states of the Council of Europe. Part One of this report gives the results of the project and makes recommendations to the European Institutions and their member states on ways in which conditions for women in prison can be improved.

With Part One of the Women in Prison report now available on our website, the specific country reports researched in Part Two of the report are now available for download. Part Two of the Women in Prison report comprises country reports which look in detail at the situation for women in prison in thirteen Council of Europe member states.

Effective Counter-Terrorism: A Critical Assessment of European Union Responses (568KB)- This report builds on a series of briefing papers compiled by QCEA on the European Union's response to terrorism. The report seeks to put this into a broader critical framework of responses to terrorism which is based on the Quaker Testimonies to peace and equality.
Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine & Israel (EAPPI) vacancies for service in 2008- EAPPI provides protection by presence, supports Israeli and Palestinian peace activists and advocates for an end to the occupation. To read more about the vacancies, please click here.
