Because 8 initial pages (the Cover and Index) are not counted in the Index, page numbers printed at the foot of each page in the Handbook do not correspond to Adobe page numbers. If an entry is indicated in the Table of Contents (pages i through v) as being on page N, the "Adobe page" will be page N+8, so if the Table of Contents says something is on page 30, it will be on the 38th Adobe-page of the handbook. For example the Index says:

Handbook Committee........................................................................................................11

So you would go to the 11+8=19th Adobe page of the Handbook to find the text about the Handbook Committee.

In the Adobe Reader, to find this entry there are three methods:

use the vertical scroll bar to pull down to page 11 (reading the printed page numbers at the foot of every page)
in the Adobe page-number window, enter 19
in Adobe's left-hand panel of thumbnails, click on the thumbnail for page 19.
