Friends Committee on Washington State Public Policy
        ACTION ALERT

        February 2, 2003
        Friends:
Lobby days are a great way to learn about the
issues and meet your legislators.  Our Legislators need to hear our
concerns and the most effective lobbying is a personal visit from a
        constituent.
In the past, we have encouraged Friends attendance
at the Washington Association of Churches Advocacy Day, however, due to
the construction at the Capitol, they are not doing one this year.
The following is a great link to a listing of Lobby Days sponsored by
various organizations and prepared by Policy Watch: http://depts.washington.edu/sswweb/policyw/2003LobbyDays.html.
If you are planning on attending any of these events, let our lobbyist,
Alan Mountjoy-Venning (360-556-2584) know, and he will be happy to talk
with you and/or meet with you.
Friends have been invited to participate in
the Lutheran Public Policy Office's Lutheran Advocacy Day, Wednesday,
March 12, 2003 in Olympia, Washington.  They have been great allies
in our efforts concerning revenue and budget concerns and their impact
        on human services.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei
Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison Ave NW, Olympia.  $10 is the
suggested donation for lunch, which is provided, and materials.
Meeting with your representatives and/or senator is
an important part of this event.  You may make your own appointment
by calling the legislative hotline, 800-562-6000 or Alan
Mountjoy-Venning can make an appointment for you.  If you schedule
your own meeting, please try to schedule them between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m
        and let us know.
        Thank you,
        Deric Young
        Legislative Committee Clerk
