Getting to Meeting - Travel Directions

area map

You may wish to take the Metro to FMW; on-street parking is sometimes difficult.

Traveling By Metro

From the northwest: Take the I-270 spur toward I-495 east (Beltway) toward Silver Spring, but then take the exit for Route 355. You'll be headed south on 355, so you'll need to turn around, perhaps using a left turn onto a side street. Heading north, cross over I-495 (Beltway), where Route 355 is becomes the Rockville Pike, and look quickly to the right for the Grosvenor Metro stop (Red Line), with ample parking. NOTE: South of the Beltway, Route 355 is called Wisconsin Avenue. It's only about a quarter mile to the first Metro station (Red Line), Medical Center, but parking is difficult.

From the northeast: From I-95, take I-495 (Beltway) west toward Silver Spring. Get off at Georgia Avenue northbound. Immediately look to the left for the exit to the Forest Glen station (Red Line), which has parking.

From the east: Coming west on Route 50, follow the signs to the New Carrollton station, near I-95 (the Beltway) or next at Landover Station, near Route 202. (Both stations are Orange line) Parking available.

From the south: From I-95, go just past I-495 (Beltway) and look for the Van Dorn Street exit. Follow the signs to the Van Dorn station. (Blue Line) Parking available.

From the southwest: From I-66, get off at the Nutley Road south exit. (It's well before you get to I-495, the Washington Beltway.) Immediately look for the entry to the Vienna Metro station (Orange Line) on your right. Parking is plentiful.

At Metro Center Station: If you don't go to one of the Red Line stations in the suburbs, you will need to change trains at Metro Center to catch a Red Line train to the Dupont Circle stop. Take the train toward Shady Grove.

When you get off at Dupont Circle: Take the Q Street exit from Metro; walk north on Connecticut Ave. (uphill) approximately two and a half blocks to Florida Avenue; turn left on Florida and walk approximately half a block to the Meetinghouse on the right.

Driving Into D.C.

From the northwest: From I-270, go east on Route 495 (Beltway) toward Silver Spring. In about a mile, take the Connecticut Avenue exit south. Go a few miles on Connecticut, past the Zoo on your left, next over a high bridge over the park, then look for the Washington Hilton Hotel on the left. Just past the hotel, take a right turn on to Florida Avenue. In a half a block or so, the Meetinghouse will appear on the right. Look for wrought iron fences and a garden.

From the northeast: From I-95, take route 495 (Beltway) west toward Silver Spring. Take the Georgia Avenue exit south. In a few blocks, turn right onto 16th Street extended. Follow 16th Street for a few miles through the District until both Harvard Street and Columbia Road cross 16th Street at the same place. (There are churches on three corners) Just past there, the street ahead will descend to give you a view of the White House and the monuments in the distance. Keep eyes right, because midway down you will turn right onto Florida Avenue. After a few blocks, you'll cross Connecticut Avenue, and in half a block or so the Meetinghouse will appear on the right. Look for wrought iron fences and a garden.

From the east: Go west of Route 50, which becomes New York Avenue. After a very high bridge over the railroad tracks, you will descend to Florida Avenue. Turn right onto Florida. Watch the letter Streets - P Street, Q Street, the take a gentle left onto R Street. Stay on R Street for about a mile or so. Once you've crossed Connecticut Avenue, the next traffic light will be at Florida Avenue. Turn right and go a half block. The Meetinghouse is on the left, set back behind the stone fence and holly trees.

From the south: From I-95, take I-395 directly to the 14th Street Bridge over the Potomac River. Stay on 14th Street for over a mile, watching the letter streets go down the alphabet until you get to R Street, where you will turn left. Go several blocks on R Street. Once you've crossed Connecticut Avenue, the next traffic light will be at Florida Avenue. Turn right and go a half block. The Meetinghouse is on the left, set back behind the stone fence and holly trees.

From the southwest: From I-66, come across the Roosevelt Bridge over the Potomac River into the District. Stay on the main course of the road as it bends to the right at the end of the bridge, which empties onto Constitution Avenue. Go five blocks, then turn left onto 18th Street. Go approximately a mile, watching the letter streets go down the alphabet until you get to R Street, where you will turn left. Go three and a half blocks on R Street until you get to the traffic light at Florida Avenue. Turn right and go a half block. The Meetinghouse is on the left, set back behind the stone fence and holly trees

From western suburbs: Come down Massachusetts Avenue, continuing over the bridge over Rock Creek Park. The fourth street on the left (after S Street) will be Decatur Place. Make a gentle left onto Decatur. The next cross street will be 22nd Street. Start looking for a parking place. The Meetinghouse is ahead on your left at the corner of Decatur Place and Florida Avenue.

Parking

On-street parking is available (with some restrictions during rush hour) as the way may open. Parking regulations are strictly enforced. There are two commercial parking garages nearby:

(1) The first is in the Universal Building at 2005 Florida Ave. That's just across Connecticut Avenue on the left when heading east from the Meetinghouse, between the drug store and the post office. This garage is open from 7 AM to midnight from Monday through Saturday and 4 PM to midnight on Sunday. The door says "permit parking only," but one-day parking is OK.

(2) If that garage is full, take the next left onto T Street. Almost immediately on the left will be "Universal North Public Parking," open 7 AM till 11 PM weekdays and closed on weekends. It's just across from the side entrance to the Washington Hilton. (No vans or trucks allowed - 5'7" clearance.)
