September 21 has been designated the International Day of Peace by a United Nations resolution on September 7, 2001. This day is celebrated all over the world by events, large and small, focused on promoting peace in the world. The International Day of Peace will be commemorated at Bellevue Community College with an event on Sunday evening, September 21, 2008 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

This family-friendly event will include art, music, a giant Peace Dove parade, a Dance of Universal Peace, the World Peace Prayer ceremony, candle lighting ceremony, poetry and a concert by world-renown troubadour for peace and the environment: Dana Lyons.

6:00-7:00: tabling by co-sponsors, art projects, distribution of flags, singing
6:30-6:45: Giant Peace Dove parade in courtyard
6:45-7:00: Dance of Universal Peace
7:00-7:10: Opening Ceremony
7:10-7:30: World Peace Prayer Ceremony
7:30-8:00: Candle lighting, stories, poems and prayers for peace
8:00-9:00: Dana Lyons Concert - Circle the World

Hand painted Cards Help Support Art Therapy for Iraqi Children

Imagine being a child in Iraq. Fear of attacks and bombings are a daily grim reality. Adults are extremely frustrated with so many things-the lack of security and jobs, extremely high cost of living, breakdowns of infrastructure-no electricity, no water. The list goes on. When adults find it increasingly difficult to cope, children suffer too. Now, imagine having to leave what is left of your home and travel to a different country where you are a refugee with whoever is left from your family.  These are the children served by the Webdah School and Family Center in Jordan.
