Quarterly Meeting

Plugging the Quarterly Meeting

If you're a member of Chestnut Hill Monthly Meeting, then you're a member of Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting, too. It is the association of seven monthly meetings within the city that work together on a number of things.

"What things?" you ask. One way to find out is to visit the Quarter's Web site, which is currently still in draft stage: www.pym.org/philadelphia-qm/draft/index.html to see for yourself.

Another way is to join the Quarter's mailing list (or "list serv"), which gives you access to a calendar for the Quarter which you can actually add events to (as a list member).

Yet another way is to talk to John Gallery, the member of our meeting who is clerk of the Quarterly Meeting right now; to George Garrettson, whom John replaced as clerk; to Phil Jones, the meeting's representative to Quarterly Meeting. For another point of view, talk to Phil Anthony, whose "dayjob" is as coordinator for Salem Quarter in South Jersey. There the meetings are much more widely spaced, and the population more spread out; the collaboration and mutual support that meetings can offer each other is very significant.

At the very least, looking into the Quarter's doings is a good way to find out what's happening at our neighbor meetings, and perhaps discover ways that we too can reinforce each other in the midst of all the non Quakers who surround us.
