We, the undersigned Washington
voters, see the present Administration’s plans to attack Iraq as
unwise. We urge the U.S. Congress to mount more balanced debate to
clarify U.S. objectives in making such a move.
We are concerned that waging this war
will likely:
- Cost many lives, both U.S. and Iraqi,
through direct combat and through the eradication of crucial
infrastructure in Iraq
- Further destabilize the Middle East
- Alienate both the U.S.’s traditional and
hard won allies, most of whom oppose such an attack
- Create political, economic, and
humanitarian chaos in Iraq and commit the military to a prolonged
stay while Iraq rebuilds
- Cost in the tens of billions of U.S.
taxpayer dollars
- Increase the likelihood of terrorist
attacks in this country
We see this as a time when U.S. attention
and resources should be focused on:
- Insistence that the UN re-enter Iraq to
inspect for chemical, biological and nuclear weapons of mass
destruction
- Support for international justice systems to
pursue and prosecute terrorists.
- Improving the quality of life for the Iraqi
and ALL peoples in the world.

concerned citizens who see government resources being hastily mobilized
in a way which limits citizens ability to speak out about decisions
