Meeting Opened with Silent Worship at 11:40 a.m.
Present: Lorena Bruff, Betty Petras, Norman Down, Michael
Moore, Craig Jacobrown, Judy Brown, Jerry Rice, Alexis Karageorge,
Elizabeth Zwick, Wendy McClure, Millie Royce, Leyla Welkin, Bob Major,
Lee Watson.
Clip boards for sign up for child care and opening Seabold community
center each Sunday were circulated.
The minutes of the July Business Meeting were approved.
The Finance report submitted by the treasurer., Barb Morrison was as
follows: There is $2219.53 on hand in the treasury and a donation of
$90.00 was made since the last Business Meeting. Our expenses were
donations for our annual assessment to North Pacific Yearly Meeting and
the Interfaith Council.
A Potluck to socialize and welcome new members was set for Friday
evening, November 7, at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Alexis Karageorge and
Jerry Rice at 5743 NE Foxglove Lane, Poulsbo, Wa.
Sufi and Quaker Mysticism Leyla Welkin announced the coming of a series
of discussions on this topic to be held on Thursday evenings from 7-9
every other week beginning October 2 and continuing through November 20.

9:00 discussion on Sunday mornings. Friends are encouraged to think
about offering or participating in a pre-meeting discussion time. We will
discuss this possibility at a later business meeting.
Ministry and Counsel Committee members are Gayle Henry, Norm Down, Betty
Petras, Michael Moore, Lorena Bruff, Convener.
Lorena Bruff reported for the committee. The committee has discussed
Membership applications and how to deal with them. Meeting approved the
following process: a consideration of any applicant for two months at our
business meetings with decision to come on the second month of the
consideration. The purchase of a gift certificate at Friends General
Conference Bookstore for the new member.
The Clearness Committee which has functioned to determine the readiness for membership is asked also to
function as a welcoming committee to arrange for the welcoming at the next Meeting potluck.
Meeting approved investigating a listing of our Meeting place and time in
Friends Journal.
Norm Down presented Jerry Rice’s application for membership and read his
letter from which the following statement is a quote:
“Trying to make sense of the mundane by creating connections with the transcendent has
occupied much of my life ...The fundamental aspect of this ‘spiritual’
realm is, in fact, connectedness. The set of values often identified as
‘Quaker’--simplicity, community, social justice, diversity, equality, and
peace--along with the means of achieving these ends--respectful
communication, accountable moral choices, consensus decision-making,
exploration of diverse viewpoints, peaceful conflict resolution and
environmental stewardship is as good a description as I’ve ever seen of
these connections and ways to foster them.”
Norm read the report of Jerry’s Visiting Committee consisting of Norm
Down, Virginia Hoyte and Craig Jacobrown. The committee recommends that
Jerry be accepted for membership. Meeting will consider Jerry’s
application further next month.
Quarterly Meeting Elizabeth Zwick volunteered to be our representative on
Continuing Comm. Norm Down volunteered to be our representative on
Ministry and Oversight.
Yearly Meeting. Norm Down volunteered to be our representative on the
Steering Committee because he is the clerk of their finance committee and
goes to Steering Committee in any case. As for our second representative
it was decided that we will try to recruit that person ad hoc for each
meeting of the Steering Committee. Norm will also represent us on Yearly
Meeting’s Ministry and Oversight committee. Norm asked that Steering
Committee issues be routinely discussed at our Business Meeting
Brinton Visitor It was decided that we will encourage ourselves to attend
Eric Moon’s visit to Port Townsend on Sunday, November 23.
Peace and Social Concerns We’ve been asked to co-sponsor with Shir Chayam
an evening presentation from a Refusnik in Israel. Meeting approved
co-sponsoring such an evening.
It was decided to postpone the discussion of the Interfaith Council’s
charter until next month.
