Worship for Business
June 19, 2005
PRESENT: Lorena Bruff,

and with a brief reading of a quotation from Woodruff by the clerk.
YEARLY MEETING will be in
Tacoma with Mary lord as a keynote speaker. The dates are July 14th to
17th and applications are available from the clerk.
CELEBRATION COMMITTEE
reported plans for a celebration potluck for the meeting to beheld on July
31st at 4:00 p.m. with business meeting to follow in a private home at
6:00 p.m.. Because of the expense of $79 for a shelter at Fay Bainbridge
State Park plus $5 per car for parking, an alternate location will be
investigated with Eagledale Park suggested as an alternative. The Downs
have volunteered their home for the business meeting if the Eagledale Park
location is selected.
PEACE AND SOCIAL CONCERNS
COMMITTEE reported on several items. Roger Lauen presented a tentative
minute for the meeting’s approval as follows:
Agate Passage Friends
strongly support the concept of all full-time workers being paid a living
wage. The monetary value of this living wage should be no less than the
federal definition of poverty (adjusted to the local cost of living).
The meeting requested
that this be seasoned and that the minute in its finished form with more
background information be presented to the next Meeting for Business.
Kathryn Keve reported on
the Peace Walk scheduled for July 16th through August 7th by Buddhists and
other walkers supporting world peace. Contributions of food and possibly
places to stay in Seattle are sought. It will begin and end at ‘Ground
Zero’ in Bangor.
Judy Brown brought before
the meeting a suggestion received from Rabbi Waskow, the director of the
Shalom Center, for faith communities to take some action during the month
of October to protect human rights, heal the earth and seek peace during
this month which, coincidentally this year includes the Muslim lunar month
of Ramadan, the sacred Jewish lunar month of Tishrei the Saint’s Day of
St. Francis of Assisi as well as the birthday of Gandhi. He titled this
proposal “God’s October Surprise”. Several suggestions were discussed and
a committee was formed to explore ways in which we might share our faith
with others and take part in their celebrations. Diana Sheridan, Lisa
Down, Kathryn Keve, Craig Jacobrown, and Judy Brown agreed to serve on
this committee and will meet on July 12th at 7:00 to share ideas. This
will be discussed further at the next business meeting.
The meeting ended with a
moment of silence.
