Budget for 2003: (see appended statement)

Charitable donations category was increased to $400.00 for the year. Special support for organizations or activities can be financed through individual earmarked donations to the Meeting.

A $50.00 donation to Women in Black was approved with optional donations by individuals

5.         Peace Vigil:

Lisa Down proposed a weekly evening Quaker vigil for peace in front of or near the ferry terminal.  This would not preclude participation in Women in Black by women wishing to do so.  The Quaker vigil would use leaflets and a sign to present a clear statement for peace drawing on traditional Quaker practice.  Both women and men would be present in the vigil, and it would augment and reinforce the statement being made by Women in Black.

It was also suggested that the Meeting consider a one-time event in support of peace and the use of diplomacy and the U.N. as an alternative to war.  The recently organized Bainbridge for Peace organization was noted as a group with whom we might collaborate.

Lisa Down will work on setting up the Vigil and a possible peace event.

6.         Quaker Seminars:

Michael Moore proposed a series of 3 seminars on Quaker topics:

1.   Consensus

2.   How do Quakers care for each other?

3.   Prayer & Meditation

Each session would be about 2 hours long with a potluck lunch or supper. Michael will organize the series.

7.         Brown Family Trust

Ed Sheridan call for confirmation of a committee to consider the generous offer by Judy Brown’s family of  part of their property for use by the Meeting.  Judy clarified the offer stating that the offer was for the use of her house as a meeting place and for the use of land fronting on the main road for parking The committee proposed includes Norm Down, Gayle Henry, Eric Hoyte and Judy Brown and was approved.  Others are welcome to join the committee.  The committee’s responsibilities are to:

a)   Solicit reactions, concerns, ideas from Agate Passage members

b)   Put together a basic description of the proposal

c)   Design a parking plan

d)   Discuss the proposal with the neighbors

e)   Present the proposal to the city if it should prove feasible

8.         Ministry and Oversight Committee Name:

After discussing pro’s and con’s of the existing, traditional name and the questionable connotations for some members of the term   “oversight”, it was decided to rename the Committee as the Ministry and  Counsel Committee.

9.         Seabold Hall and home meetings:

Since there questions in some members minds about the best location for Sunday meeting, an ad hoc (coffee shop) committee was designated to work out a recommended solution and present it to the Meeting for consensus. The committee is as follows:  Gayle Henry, Norm Down, Dorothy Rana and Lisa Down. (Bob Major graciously offered to pay for the coffee!)

10.         Peace Pagoda

Kathryn Keve presented the idea being developed by a local Buddhist Temple to construct a Peace Pagoda on the Wykoff Property at the entrance to Eagle Harbor.  She provided brochures on the project to interested members.
