OLD
BUSINESS
New
Conscientious Objectors Article,
Craig J. Copies were passed around for review. An addition was made to
reference the current status as an all-volunteer military in addition to
the possibility of a future draft. The article was approved and will be
signed by the Clerk as coming from the Agate Pass Friends Meeting with
Craig as the author and contact person. Craig asked where else it might
be sent – in addition to the Friend Journal and Friends Bulletin.
Kathryn and Jim offered to help out with other publications.
Interfaith Council Representatives.
Currently we have no representative to the NK/BI IFC. However, Leyla
Welkin has been representing APFM at the Seattle IFC. The Meeting
approved to continue her representation and give $25 towards the
membership fee. Leyla plans to pay $25 as well.
Note:
On January 25, there is an Interfaith event on Forgiveness at St. Paul
Episcopal Church in Bremerton, organized by Sally Santan, religion
writer for the Kitsap Sun.
NEW
BUSINESS
Letter from Gayle Henry: The
Clerk read a letter from Gayle asking to withdraw from membership of
APFM and NW Yearly Meeting.... After discussion,
the Meeting decided to hold off acceptance until the January Meeting for
Business, and in the meanwhile several people will meet with Gayle to
express their appreciation for her and her contributions to APFM. Judy
will also write a personal letter to Gayle letting her know of the
status.
Memorial Services: The Clerk
noted that we are authorized to hold Weddings and Memorial services now
that we are a meeting and we need to give this some forethought.
Ed
Sheridan Suggested a daylong workshop to discuss.
What do
other Meetings do? It was pointed out that Faith & Practice has a
chapter on the subject. The suggestion is to ask each member or
attendee to fill out a form stating their wishes for how they would like
their services conducted. F&P also says that the service can be held as
a Quaker Meeting with anyone who wished to speak could do so. Some
people present felt that would not be the arrangement they would
prefer. We decided that Faith & Practice gave ample guidance. Judy
will write a brief introduction and Kathryn will put the introduction
and the questionnaire form F&P into a pamphlet form.
Lisa
suggested we share our wishes at a future time but this suggestion was
not finalized.
Note:
No one from Ministry and Counsel was able to be present.
The
Meeting closed at 1pm with a minute of silence.
Respectfully,
Kathryn
Keve
