Agate Passage Friend’s Meeting

For Business September 16, 2007

 

Attending: Lucy Johnson, Bob Major, Michael Moore, Dorothy Rana-Meadows, Jim Rana-Meadows, Millie Royce, Norm Keegel, Lorena Bruff, Judy Brown, Patty Damento, Peter Damento.

 

Opening: The Clerk read a passage from Faith and Practice followed by a period of silence.

Answer the Witness of God in every man, whether they are the heathen that do not profess Christ, or whether they are such that do profess Christ that have the form of godliness and be out of the Power.

Minutes: The minutes from the June 17th meeting have been approved. The minutes from the August 7th meeting have not been approved pending comments.

 

Concerns and Announcements:

v     September 21st International Peace Day. Friends are invited to stand in witness for peace with the Women in Black at 5:15 at the corner of Winslow Way and 305. At 6:15 the group will walk on the north side of Winslow Way to the Eagle Congregational Church for a Peace Service. All are welcome.

v     October 27th is the NPYM Steering Committee Meeting at Reedwood Friend’s Church in Portland, Oregon. Anyone interested in attending should contact Michael Moore or Judy Brown.

v     Subscription of Friend’s Journal available to students. Contact Michael Moore for more information.

v     Agenda for December schedule will be discussed at next Meeting for Business.

v     Lucy Johnson will head a small committee, which will address concerns of the caregiver when a family member is hospitalized.  The committee includes Jim and Dorothy Meadows, Patty Damento and Barbara Wolf. They will meet next week.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

v     We are 319.00 dollars behind last year's amount.

v     See attached Treasurer’s Report.

v     Report accepted. Caution noted that we are below budget.

 

Ministry and Counsel:

v     Names of those who have completed the “final arrangement” entries and have been placed in the safety deposit box will be available at the next Meeting for Business.

v     Michael Hinton’s pamphlet Guide to Quaker Practice will be divided into three sections for comment and discussion.  These sessions will be held in 2-week intervals starting the end of January. Please contact Judy Brown if you are interested in obtaining a copy of the pamphlet.  First session will be a potluck at Damento’s home.  More information to follow.

v     Written queries will be handed out once a month coinciding with the monthly Meeting for Business. All are invited to stay after Meeting for Worship, when the query will be read out loud. Time of comment and discussion will be held prior to the business meeting.

v     Sign up sheet for 2nd Wednesday of the month Meeting for Worship is attached to the “purple clipboard”. Next Meeting will be October 10th at 7:00 pm.

 

The Meeting for Business for Worship closed at 12:20 with a brief moment of silence. Next Meeting for Business will be on October 21, 2007.
