ANNOUNCEMENTS

Peace & Social Concerns, Kathryn Keve

The movie “Ground Truth” about veterans of the Iraq War was shown at Eagle Harbor Church on February 15.  Almost 100 people attended.  It was sponsored by Agate Passage Friends Meeting and Yes! Magazine.

As follow-up, we will be working on Support (our local) Troops projects

On Feb 16, a photo and talk on Gaza was presented by Skip Schiel from Cambridge, MA, a Quaker and friend of the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple.

A tea will be held at Virginia Hoyte’s on Friday, Feb 23 at 3pm to meet with Gayle Henry to reconnect with her and following up with her letter of resignation. (Lisa Down)

TREASURER’S REPORT: Michael Moore

We are $171.89 behind in contributions so far this year.  The balance normally goes up and down.

After discussion we agreed to donate $100 to the Clarence and Lily Picket Endowment for Quaker Leadership this year. (See http://pickettendowment.quaker.org/index.php for more information)

The Spring Quarterly Meeting is the last weekend in April and Michael plans to attend.

DISCUSSION OF THE FINAL AFFAIRS FORM

The questions are: What role should Agate Passage Friends Meeting serve when considering end of life decisions or records? And does our Meeting have the capacity to keep such records?

After general discussion, the following themes emerged:

Judy Brown presented a form including both Faith and Practice and Dorothy Foster’s advice and those present felt it is valuable for guidance and raising questions.

That more discussion on all of these issues is desired.

Memorial service or funeral preferences could possibly be stored (for those who wish to do so) by the Meeting but not other personal or financial information.

That Ministry & Counsel can make a proposal on how to keep such records should we decide to pursue this idea.

FOLLOW-UP DISCUSSION ON GROUND TRUTH AND POSSIBLE ANTI WAR ACTIONS

A second showing of Ground Truth is scheduled on Saturday March 10 at the Suquamish UCC Church and co-sponsored by Agate Passage Friends.

Some would like to set a time for Agate Passage Friends Meeting to discuss the issues raised by Ground Truth after the March 10 showing.

We may offer a youth viewing at the LGI.  Peace and Social Concerns will be meeting this week.

Support HR508: On Feb 27, a meeting will be held at the Bainbridge Commons regarding House Bill 508, the Support Our Troops and Iraq Sovereignty and Reparations Act and other grassroots actions that support democracy.

Women in Black invite the community to stand with them.

Support the Troops Project  (Lisa Down)
Kjell Anderson has offered to work with us as well as three volunteers who signed up at the Ground Truth showing. Barbara Wolf said she would like to go to the Bremerton Veterans Home and offer an activity or assistance.

Lisa suggested that we again offer information about military recruitment options at the High School.
