Meeting for Business
February 20, 2005
Present:
Lorena Bruff, Millie Royce, Dorothy Rana Meadows, Jim Rana
Meadows, Bob Major, Lucy
Johnson, Barbara Wolf, Betty
Petras, Judy Brown, Michael Moore, Clerk
Meeting
opened with silence at 11:35 A.M.
The
minutes of the January Meeting were corrected slightly and approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Betty Petras thanked the Meeting for the caring and concern and visits they offered Dana Hanford, her husband, prior
to his recent death.
A
letter was read from Evan Welkin asking for Agate Passage Meeting’s
support in a grant he is
applying for to visit smaller Meetings on the eastern seaboard during
the summer of 2005.
Meeting
approved supporting Evan in this endeavor.
It was decided to ask Evan for the addresses of the Meetings he
wants to go to, and our Meeting, then, will write to these meetings and
ask them to furnish room and board for him.
Meeting also approved a contribution to Evan’s project of
$50.00 from Meeting funds.
The
proposal from Cedars Unitarian Universalist Church that Agate Passage
Friends Meeting help
sponsor a
Bainbridge
Island
community forum with a Moderator and Panelists from Evangelicals,
Moderates, etc. in May, 2005 on “The Role of Religion in the
Public Square
” was considered.
It was decided to offer our sponsorship to this project.
Combined
Meeting with Port Townsend Friends Meeting.
Agate Passage Meeting
suggested that neither April
24 or May 8 which were suggested were likely dates for us. June 12 and
June 26 were suggested as other possibilities.
It was mentioned that it would be nice, however to have the Port
Townsend Friends join us here on Bainbridge rather than our going to
them again on this particular time.
Plans
for EASTER were suggested by Jim Rana Meadows. It
was suggested that we go to
Battle
Point
Park
for our Easter celebration and that part of the celebration be our
sharing of what Easter means to us as persons.
Bob Major and Jim Rana Meadows volunteered to do the planning and
organization. Judy Brown
will prepare some pots for growing seeds and Bob Major will plant them
it is hoped with the children on March 6, 2005
THE
STATE OF
THE M
EETING
report will be written
by Judy Brown for the next Business Meeting, and approved at that time.
LIBRARY
Discussion at length followed as to how we could administer our
library. No conclusions were reached.
A
NOMINATING COMMITTEE was
appointed. They are
Betty Petras, Millie Royce,
Judy Brown and Ed Sheridan.
After discussion of whether we should try to have more
committees, it was suggested that we leave this concern to the
Nominating committee.
Elizabeth
Zwick has reminded us that we will need a new representative to the
Interfaith Council.
It
was decided that we will meet both for worship and celebration at
Battle
Point
Park
on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005.
The
Meeting closed with silence at
1:05. p.m.
