Agate Passage Worship Group
Meeting for Worship for Business

November 18, 2001

PRESENT; Lorena Bruff, Lisa Down, Barbara Well, Lee Watson, Bob and Millie Royce, Ed Dodson, Elizabeth Petras, Gayle Henry, Judy Brown, Michael Moore, Craig Jacobrown, Deborah Anderson, Ed and Diana Sheridan

The meeting began with The query: Are our Meetings for Business held in the spirit of a Meeting for Worship in which we seek divine guidance for our actions in love and mutual forbearance? There were a few moments of silent reflection.

1. Review of the minutes of the last meeting. The minutes of The September meeting were reviewed. Michael Moore stated that the final authority for granting our request for monthly meeting status is the Quarterly Meeting, not the Yearly Meeting. Minutes were approved with this correction.

2. Calendar Planning. It was agreed to hold the annual Christmas Party and potluck on December 16th. This will follow a half hour of worship and may include crafts, singing, dancing as plans evolve.

Meeting locations will be at The Dodson’s on December 23rd and at the Brown’s on December 30th. Barbara Wolf will open her house for meeting on January 27th.

Social Concerns Discussion Group on Alternatives to War will meet following Meeting for Worship on the second Sunday of each month. All are welcome.

3. Treasurer’s Report. Ed Dodson filled in for Nancy as she had recently had surgery on her hand. The balance in our account is currently $1972.92 as of November 17th. North Pacific Yearly Meeting costs are rising and they are requesting $30 per year per member. This was discussed at some length as some were under the impression that the previous amount had been very minimal, It was subsequently clarified that the amount for members is paid by their meeting of record and no fee is assessed for attenders. Quarterly Meeting assesses a small amount.

The meeting approved buying a new answering machine as the old one is no longer reliable. Lisa Down said they might have one they could donate.

4. Committee on Peace and Social Concerns. Ed stated that he had been pleased with the turnout for meetings. He provided the rough draft of a minute protesting the bombing in Afghanistan which he intends to rework and submit for the group’s approval. 350 of the brochures titled 10 Ways to Fight Hate have been circulated. Ed submitted his resignation as clerk of Social Concerns Committee and highly recommended Craig Jacobrown as his replacement. The group concurred with this recommendation and thanked Ed for his work in starting this very important committee. Ed stated that he will continue to serve this committee as a member. Suggestions for the group can be sent to Craig’s e-mail address: jacobro@linknet.kitsap.lib.wa.us

5, Ministry and Oversight: The statement prepared for University Friend’s Meeting Ministry and Oversight group requesting transition to Monthly Meeting status by Judy Brown was reviewed and revised. The group agreed to send this in the revised form and to provide copies to members and attenders through our web site and newsletter.

The meeting closed with a moment of silence.
